an unofficial masterpost blog for Stan Sakai's samurai epic Usagi Yojimbo, which chronicles the wanderings and adventures of Miyamoto Usagi, a masterless samurai rabbit in 17th century Japan.

Read the comics, they're amazing.

Sorry about the inactivity recently. D:  My sister was visiting so I spent all my time with her, and now I’m trying to get back into the swing of drawing ;;;
Also, I should be starting commissions next week, so for everyone who’s asked about that, yay!  In the mean time, I’m going to make sure I can still, you know, draw things.
((also, since i reached 2k followers a few weeks ago, i was wanting to make some keychains to give away or something, but i’m having a hard time with them not turning out right (using shrink material)? if anyone has any keychain-making tips they could give me that would be really appreciated!! ;;o;; the designs are actually pretty cute and i’d love to give them away ;v;))

Got my copy of the Sakai project today absolutely amazed by the wonderful art and love this community has for one another. Usagi Yojimbo is what kindled my love of comics and I just want to say thank you to every artist that contributed.

HeroesCon 2014: Art Auction Piece

Usagi Yojimbo

11 x 17 inches

Sumi ink, white ink, and sumi ink wash on bristol board

___

Last year I did a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle piece for the Heroes Con Auction, this year Usagi Yojimbo.  If you haven’t noticed, my auction theme has been “80’s indie comics that have had a crap ton of influence on my art.” aka “anthropomorphic ninja and/or samurai.”

The first image is a scan of the original art. This is how it was sold in the auction.  I had originally wanted to tea stain the whole piece to give it a aged parchment feel.  However, the white ink did not stain, so I had to abandon that idea for the original art.

Thanks to the magic ability of digital art, I was able to apply a texture that mimicked the tea stain I had originally envisioned for the piece, which is the second image you see.

I am incredibly grateful that this piece was included in the Saturday evening auction event, and humbled and awestruck by how much the art sold for. Thank you to everyone involved!

I can’t wait until next year!
